Charrise Lane said she chose to attend Florida A&M University to be surrounded by her own people. Now, because of her unpopular politics on campus, she feels alone.

Charrise Lane, a senior at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, wants to re-establish what would be the only active chapter of College Republicans at a historically Black college or university. There’s just one roadblock: She can’t find an adviser for the group to be recognized on campus.

According to FAMU guidelines, no student organization can become official without one.

“I’ve reached out to professors,” said Lane, a 25-year-old public relations major and registered Republican.

“The two that responded said they couldn’t do it,” she said, adding, “So it’s not like I’m not trying.”

So I was gonna make fun of her without reading the article. But I stopped myself and read it.

Student wants to have a republican club, at a Historically black university. In order to be recognised officially by the uni you need a staff member with 3 years at the uni to sign of/endorse your club. She has emailed at least 2 faculty and both have declined. She does not say how many she has reached out to or in what way. Everyone should feel so sad for this poor woman who just wants to be heard!

No I kidd. She’s a whiner and an idiot looking for attention. She says she has met with 3 other students a few times unofficially, yet the minimum to be recognised officially as a group is 10. So even if she could get a sign off by a faculty, she doesn’t have enough people interested in her garbage to qualify anyways (my soul brightens just slightly at this thought)

And why is she emailing random faculty? How many classes is she taking? Did she ask each of those professors, in person? Seems like she is trying to raise a stink without putting in any of the work. Wahhhhh! you won’t recognise my shitty club! Help help I’m being oppressed!

The only smart thing in that whole article was the thought that in order to change the GOP you need people in it who aren’t shitba… Excuse me, who represent all walks of life and colours of skin. But frankly, that’s a looooooong game to be playing…

How can she complain about being unpopular when she’s openly advocating for the violent oppression of her peers and mentors? Gross.

Exactly. There isn’t anything about this that is actually news or noteworthy. A low enrollment club with the goal of making waves isn’t being endorsed by a faculty member that doesn’t want to deal with the headache for a club that’s going to die again in two years.

This is just normal University administration and operation and yet here we are reading an article about it from a major news outlet.

Yeah, well maybe you’d have better luck finding a sponsor for your club if the great black hope of the Republican party didn’t call himself a black Nazi who wanted slavery to be legal so he could own a couple of slaves.

No, this is a calculated move. Her brain isn’t mush. She just lacks sympathy for others and is willing to sell her soul for a guaranteed financial future.

I mean maybe she just looked at Candace Owens and figured that was a viable career path.

She’s public relations major who just got you to look at a headline about her. I’d say she’s pretty smart, but lacking in morals and empathy.

I don’t think she’s an idiot. These seems like a very intelligent way for her to take an easy route of getting ahead through support from Republicans at the cost of her integrity, credibility, and dignity.

I bet the ones who didn’t respond showed their colleagues the hilarious joke email they just got.

I find it difficult to understand what today’s Republican party would offer to a black person. (Or any really, but specifically black)

There’s money and opportunity to selling out your own people to be the token figurehead for a hateful organization. Look at Clearance Thomas. He’s had a long, easy, comfortable life. Even with the recent focus on him, I find it hard to believe he or his wife give a shit when they can just go hang out on their billionaire buddies’ yachts.

A lot- if you’re a rich black person.

But I don’t understand what they offer to any other black people.

Threats of violence are inappropriate, but you can’t force anyone to like you enough to help you start your club.

Not sure why any professor at FAMU would wish to align themselves with today’s Republican parties of Florida and US. Rejecting affiliation with the likes of Governor Ron DiSaster is free speech.

I wish Ms. Lane well, I’m sure that she’ll have a great career ahead of her as a token black woman at Fox News.

She should pull herself by her bootstraps and be the change she wants to see. Why is she going to let someone else tell her how to live her life? She needs to stand up, take charge, and create her own opportunities. As a proud member of the party of individualism and freedom, she is uniquely positioned to become a figurehead for her community by showing that anyone can be anything if they try hard enough.
