It’s more division. His trolling is to isolate the left if anything else. That’s been the alt-right strategy for a while. His base hates Israel because they hate Jews. This riles them up while also further equating criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Add to the fact that Trump’s shit takes are blasted everywhere, overtaking any anticolonial analysis, and this becomes the dominant assumption among liberals as well. To the uninformed, leftists now look like they are tailing Trump’s antisemitism.
This is my analysis for Trump’s contrarianism anyway. Hunch is that this is very much a tag team effort between Democrats, Republicans, and media giants to manufacture consent while alienating the left. Trump is not as rogue or off-script as the media paints him to be. He is doing what is expected.
These past four years have felt like Democrats are trying to lose reelection on purpose, alienating every demographic that came out to reluctantly vote for them and betraying us more egriously than past administrations. At this point it really just feels like they’re prepared to hand Trump the presidency and are just going through the arbitrary steps in the circus. The ruling class has already positioned themselves for the full transition from liberal domestic politics to full-on fascist takeover.
Do they hate Israel? I mean, Trump was always a staunch Zionist, and quite a lot of anti-semites support Israel’s existence because they want Jewish people separate and away from from the west (and also, they’re even more Islamophobic than they are antisemitic)
There is absolutely no scenario in which Trump decreases funding for Israel. He was in many ways the most Zionist president to ever exist.
When he handed Jerusalem to Israel, he broke with decades of strategic resistance from the US because he didn’t understand the instability it would create, and wanted to give Israel whatever it wants.
His current position is that Netanyahu is to blame for allowing harm to come to Israeli civilians. Not that Israel is bad for genociding Palestinians for 75 years. His fear is that Netanyahu is reckless and creating instability that might result in Palestinian liberation rather than their slow, competent strangulation by more “liberal” Israelis.
I know he’s not the President now, and Joe Biden is evil, but can we at least try and remain committed to the goal of independent working class power? We didn’t tail Biden in order to “stop Trump”, and we shouldn’t tail Trump to stop the Democrats.
This weird idea that Trump is less of an enemy towards the Global South because he did a few symbolic things like meet Kim Jong Un and tried to extort Zelensky needs to die. That’s just him being chaotic.
He’s the one that started providing Ukraine lethal military aid. He started the policy of US military invasion “games” aimed at the DPRK. He attempted coups, loudly assassinated Soleimani, and claimed Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Exactly. I used to take that exact line. Then a friend of mine pointed out that, really, the very best you can say of Trump – and it’s being generous – is that he has some instincts toward realpolitik and political pragmatism, which in principle would at least make him better than the neocons (who are totally delusional and driven by ideology). However, Trump also wants to be respected, and he’s terminally insecure, so he bowed to the neocons at pretty much every major juncture. Which completely obviates any reason one might have for supporting him.

Contrarianism or antisemitism, if he stops at least partially funding Israel when he is in office it would still be good for Palestine.
