Janel Comeau @VeryBadLlama

hey sorry I missed your text, I am processing a non-stop 24/7 onslaught of information with a brain designed to eat berries in a cave

I like the Sir PTerry approach to that(to paraphrase):

We’re trying to understand the universe with a brain and language designed to tell us what tree has the good fruit, and which one has the hungry jaguar.

We’ve designed languages and terms to help us communicate in the modern world we’ve built around ourselves.

Our brains were never designed, but evolved to throw rocks into the trees to scare the cats or knock down the fruit.

True enough regarding the brain, but language evolves a lot faster than brains do. It long ago grew past only being about survival.
