Not really. Al-Assad was a known quantity and the relationship, while certainly not friendly, was at least stable (by Middle-Eastern standards). These guys on the other hand are an unknown, and that lack of predictability makes neighbours uneasy.

From the US’ POV, having Syria devolve into a theocracy is a small price to pay for the harm this inflicts on Russia (most notably losing their only port on the Mediterranean and forcing them to transit through the Hellespont, subject to the whims of Turkey)
Anecdotally, I find that hard to believe. I also have to wonder how honestly people are responding to a survey about behaviour that was once illegal.
That doesn’t contradict what I said, but thanks for the extra background.
Yes but Canada signed on as a partner at the development stage and then (very expensively) pulled out only to come crawling back years later to buy back in at a far higher price. Absolutely idiotic, but I’d expect no less.
what do you gain by running Linux over Windows?
Not using Windows.
But more seriously, you’d be astonished at the progress over the last ~3 years. I don’t play that many games but have yet to run into one that doesn’t work.
It’s just frustrating because nuclear subs are such a natural niche for Canada and the idea keeps coming up every decade but gets shelved. They are perfect for patrolling the Arctic, able to stay under the ice for extended periods of time. Freaking Australia will be getting SSNs as part of the AUKUS deal. Canada should have been part of that. Then again, Canada should also not have pulled out of the F-35 deal…

I won’t buy this, but as someone who uses exclusively Linux including on my self-built gaming PC, it’s great news.
ChatGPT-ass article. Is all news going to be like this now?
And I speak three and am learning a fourth. It’s just a bad name.
Maybe it’s more like for-gay-joe? Or for-gay-o? For-gee-o? For-gy-o? Who knows?
Great, hopefully this high-profile move makes them change their name into something that can’t be potentially pronounced 8 different ways. Forge-joe? Or more like Jorge-ho?
This may or may not be relevant in your case, but one of the key goals of Russian propaganda is to create a widespread sense of apathy in the population: https://jordanrussiacenter.org/blog/propaganda-political-apathy-and-authoritarianism-in-russia
PROTIP: Dems being spineless, brainless cretins does NOT absolve anyone who said that sitting by and letting fascists take over the country was preferable! And yes, you CAN blame the voters for that!
I realize how old-man-ish this will sound (although in my defense I am literally becoming an old man) but there’s a widespread lack of personal accountability these days. Everything must always be someone else’s fault.
The court’s three liberal justices—Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson—all advocated for some form of enforcement
Of course everyone on the right didn’t like it, because “Fuck Trudeau” is the extent of their political understanding. It was overkill in hindsight, but in the moment, with the capital paralyzed and armed terrorists in Coutts, some benefit of the doubt must be given.
Canada invoked the Emergencies Act in 2022 when the national capital was occupied by a convoy of antivaxers who shut down the city for days. There was some debate as to whether it was necessary and there was an inquiry afterward. The main reason for invoking it was to allow the federal government to use law enforcement since the Ottawa municipal police mostly sat on its hands during the whole debacle.
They’ve been trying to grab that last slice of Golan for decades — don’t conflate opportunism with long-term policy. There’s absolutely no reason to believe that HTS would support Palestine less than al-Assad did.
