  • I’m sorry the world is the way it is but if you want the US to not be Imperialist and hyper capitalist and all these things then what you do is what works and what works in California and the reason it feels so vastly different from the rest of the states and in some ways more like a European country in terms of people’s QOL is that they havent had a republican win for ages, soft dems lead to more comfort, which leads to more progressives and shifting of the overton window, and that’s the only path forward

  • Kamala lost. The idpol of kinder language is a trashfire and a failure because the assumption that “empathy” is a shared quality among humanity is wrong and “bloodlust” is actually far more common, while complete ignorance and anti-intellectualism and accusations of “overthinking” prevail over both as you can see in the programming.dev techbro below.

Talking about how language influences views of marginalized or minority groups is useless when most people can barely even read more than a paragraph without bitching because they never developed reading stamina.

As for those who make these conversations necessary in the first place - they will always use the meanest word they can and all this has done is fed fuel to reactionaries.

There are far more important real fights to fight, like access to HRT and surgeries for people suffering from gender dysphoria - a crippling disorder, before you metropolitan libs start going on about “trans-femmes” and “masculine gendered language”

  • That’s rough. That said as a trans woman (no idea what a trans-femme is) I don’t see a problem with it in the context of “you guys”.

I use “dude” as a general exclamation towards my own also-trans gf sometimes even. Really y’all oughta chill on the language policing. If you pass people will treat you like the gender you look like, if you don’t, they won’t really, no matter how much they try, and your main issue is not passing and thus money which can fix that, not other people and their language use.

  • Yeah I’m not so sure anymore either. I used to buy into this thinking from personal experience, like nobody amongst any generations could have the nuanced detailed discussions about progressive subjects like race and gender and it’s depiction in media as your typical Gen-Z or millennial on Tumblr or Reddit and all those massively popular decent video essayists and science communicators on YouTube, heck even the right wingers used to make fun of millennials for “heckin’ science” and whatnot.

But now it’s like there’s been a change, now everything is so massively anti-intellectual, people unironically say that a paragraph is too long to read in comments they choose to browse, simplicity is glorified versus complexity/reality/nuance.

Perhaps Gen-Z is just far more polarized and radicalised in both directions. If I have to think of the most “lame” thing someone could say in my generation and the most easily attacked position it’s to be an establishment or status quo simp like a milquetoast republican or democrat.
