Frans de Waal is a hugely respected ethologist that has published numerous important books on the subject. Most of them are quite accessible and make for a fun read too.

Is this about how the wolves that were observed exhibiting the “alpha/beta” behaviors were only acting that way due to being from different packs forced together in captivity or is it about the gross PUA adjacent self aggrandizing pseudo motivational trend loosely based on the former?

The latter, except it redefines being a successful alpha as being empathetic, protective, and nurturing, discusses roles in ape culture, and reiterates that we are still just intelligent apes with technology. So it’ll 100% be panned as “sissification” of males, liberal propaganda, or some such nonsense.
