      Two answers:

      1. Konami sucks. I don’t like Kojima, but I still root for him when it comes to Konami. That company is cartoonishly stupid.

      2. Afaik the new CEO was a thundercunt and told everyone to cut corners. Kojima told him to fuck off and continued implementing stuff into MGS, which in turn delayed the games launch. (If you are new to this Universe, making a good game takes time and love. This is something travellers from the Multiverse, CEOs and chimps with the Down syndrome don’t understand).

Mofo keeps adding shit that isn’t in the budget probably.

At some point the people funding the project have to deliver a product, and if Kojima keeps the title in development hell there won’t be a product.

You talking about the same kojima that delivered endless hits to the company over three decades?

Endless? Pretty sure you can count them. They have numbers on the name.

Quit fanboying for a second and realize there are real time and money constraints, you cannot endlessly shovel features into software at a whim.

MGSV going open world was dangerous enough.

            Yes let’s count them

            1. Metal Gear 1987
            2. Snatcher 1988
            3. SD Snatcher 1990
            4. Metal Gear 2 1990
            5. Policenauts 1994
            6. Metal Gear Solid 1998
            7. Metal Gear Solid 2 2001
            8. Zone of the Enders 2001
            9. Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hand 2003
            10. Metal Gear Solid 3 2004
            11. Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django 2004
            12. Metal Gear Solid 4 2008
            13. Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker 2010
            14. Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes 2014
            15. Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain

At this point, Konami shutter kojima productions, throw away the fox engine they had made for all Konami developers to use and fired the goose that laid their only golden eggs. At no point does kojima go more than 4 years between new products for Konami.

If you want to look at it from the purely business perspective, then you can make the argument that their new ceo wanted out of the video games business to focus on pachinko. That’s a valid thing to make claims around. They basically killed off all their video game products.

But if you want to claim that that the game just needed to ship regardless, then well, reviews, critics, players, consumers, they’ll all disagree with you there. The number one complaint is that this game wasn’t finished. And as we’ve learnt Konami seemed to have bad blood that made them vindictive against the developers of the game that likely made things worse.

Then how do you explain this:

“Keighley went on to detail how shocked he was when he found out that Konami didn’t allow Kojima to attend last year’s Game Awards.” (a quote from the article)

Idk I don’t work there. Imagine there’s a lot of bad blood from trying to rein in Kojima, which eventually pushed him into starting his own studio.

I’m pretty sure he started his own studio because they fired him. Though I suppose that’s just order of operations.

The weird part was they denied to the public that he would no longer be working for Konami. Kojima was verbal for months that he was no longer working for Konami, they just pretended he still did.

You’d have made a good point if everything he touched didn’t turn to gold. Something something goose that lays the golden eggs.

Death Stranding was definitely not gold. Homie has to have someone to tell him when to stop, otherwise the narrative is a fucking mess.

Metacritic and sales figures disagree with you. It’s fine if you don’t like it, but it made money and garnered positive reputation.

You’re acting like homie stole your girl, why are you so bitter about his success?

If you think I’m bitter about his success you haven’t read a single fucking thing I’ve said.

All I said is he needs someone to stop him, which is super clear if you look at the size and scope of both MGSV and Death Stranding.

Then how do you explain Kojima’s success with Death Stranding where he was basically free to do whatever he want with no one stopping him?

Rad ad campaign. Most people didn’t even finish the first highway.

Probably because the story was nonsense (it wasn’t but it was presented in horrid fashion) and the performances were phoned in. Couldn’t keep people interested.
