Canada’s rental crisis is getting worse, according to a new report that found the average price to rent an apartment last month was $2,149 — up by more than 11 per cent in the past 12 months.
Burn the whole fucking system to the ground. You failed, Canada.

Canada is a too big and diverse a place to be throwing around national averages like that. I think I’d like to see the increase and average/median split by city, suburban, and rural. Preferably provincially. When we look it in all those categories are they all increasing 11% or are some increasing more and others less?

Like everything in Canada, it looks like Toronto and Vancouver are up a lot. I think everywhere else is up just a little bit.
Where I live on Vancouver Island (not Vic) rent has increased about 2 to 3 times in ten years. Housing prices, from what I’ve seen on bc assessment, is on par. Something assessed at 250k in 2013 is now assessed at 600 to 700k.
Looking at rentals this morning, 2br are anywhere from 1500 to as high as 3100.
