I’ll trash on greedy Steve Huffman any day.

But in this particular case, we really need everyone we can get. If Reddit helps convince more people to vote (for Biden), then so be it.

Not a time to be picky about allies. Not when Trump has a good chance to become effectively the King of the USA.

Ah yes the platform notorious for banning users and running a scam upvote system for engagement wants to enlighten us plebs about voting IRL.

Redditors recognize that Republicans are shit, is that a bad thing?

If Reddit is 99% Democrat, what does that say about Lemmy’s userbase? Because Lemmy makes Reddit look like a platform of far right extremists.

Well its the same with Lemmy, but the point still remains that Lemmy makes Reddit look like far right extremists but both Lemmy and Reddit are currently predominantly politically left.

You have to remember that the left in america is not in fact left at all. Just that the political spectrum got purged of anything left of full blown capitalism during the red scare, and now “the left” is entirely the same as the right, aside from their social policies.

Both are capitalist, pro deregulated free market money loyalists who have successfully reframed the left vs right question from an economic to a social one, and are perfectly content having the peasants bicker over reproductive rights and immigration, neither of that endangers the capital.

So with this added context, the reddit population is actually predominantly liberal to progressive. Lemmy is definitely more left leaning though, for better or worse (tankies 🤧)

No shit. I got downvoted for calling out a commentor sincerely advocating that biden should use systematic executions of congressional leaders that oppose him, thanks to the new supreme court ruling. It wasnt even the politics forum!

Im not being unreasonable saying that that is a horrible take. way too many people here make me feel like im living in an alternate reality. Im middle left at most, motherfuckers, yalls crazy.

I like lemmy, but there is no middle ground here at the moment. Ill keep calling it out tho.

I would say the Lemmy developer team are saving as much money as possible to pay their own bills by living as efficiently as possible. That there is no money left to contribute to politicians.

While Reddit is definitely majority democrats I don’t buy 99%. There are plenty of conservatives on there. Must be something with how this program unfolded or who donates.

I’d say that Lemmy’s tankies are doing what they can to get Trump elected, regardless of where on the “spectrum” you might place them. Politics isn’t really a simple binary state.

What percentage of “Lemmy” that represents is anybody’s guess.

You know what pisses me off with this crap?

    The two party crap.

Yeah, yeah, Republicans are an existential threat right now, but there’s a whole wide world left of the Democrat party. There’s other US parties (not viable, but that’s not their fault).

But crap like this not only highlights how broken the electoral system is, but it helps perpetuate it.

    It just gets old

Get rid of FPTP, and get genuine representation, then you’ll see some change, but since that isn’t what the rich guys want, it wont happen.

Canada voted a guy in on the basis of electoral reform and nearly a decade later we have no changes there and political theatre mirroring the two party american way of “don’t vote for him, he’s way worse than me!”

We need our politicians to be accountable for inaction, misrepresentation, excessive lobbying, and failure to provide campaign promises.

Current parties (both of them) will never fully support ranked choice voting because both of them still like their odds in FPTP.

He is currently the most popular “other” party. If you want to move past the 2 party system for presidential elections, he is currently at the front of the queue.

He isn’t a party. He’s a candidate running as an independent. And he’s a symptom of the two party, FPTP system being screwed up.

I haven’t been keeping track of how he’s polling to debate him being “at the front of the queue”, because the two party FPTP system means he’s an also-ran as long as either party exists at all. And, also, there’s no way in hell any of the die hard democrats would throw their vote to him, nor would anyone that isn’t already going to among independents or swing voters.

What would happen if the democrats field a pointless candidate is a loss that puts trump in office. You might get some fleeing to vote green party, but that aren’t guaranteed blue votes are just going to stay home.

              A party of one.

Agreed, but my point is that if you widen the field then candidates/parties you don’t like are more likely to appear before you get to your preferred left wing options.
